States Wins CRIO Gladstone Nations Cup Presented by Cosequin
At Bayer/USET Festival of Champions Presented by State

NJ--June 22, 2002—The United States won the CRIO Gladstone
Nations Cup Presented by Cosequin at the Bayer/USET Festival of
Champions Presented by State Line Tack.
The
USET squad of Tim McQuay on Okie Dun Did It, Craig Johnson on
Sailing Smart, Dell Hendricks on Dunnit In Hollywood and Shawn
Flarida on Freckles Top Prize combined for a team score of 1326.5
points to edge the team from Canada at the USET Olympic Training
Center in Gladstone, NJ. Canada, which upset the USET squad in
last year’s first-ever Reining Nations Cup, finished this
year with a score of 1309. Brazil finished third with a score
of 1269, Mexico was fourth with 1231.5 and Japan was fifth with
1194.
Scott
Monroe of Sharon, CT sits in first place in the Advanced Singles
Horse competition after the dressage and marathon phases. The
driving event is the last of the selection trials being used to
choose the team to represent the United States at the World Singles
Championship in Conty, France in August.
After two days of competition, Monroe has the lead with a combined
score of 103.9 penalties. Nancy Johnson follows in second place
with a combined score of 105.2, and Kimberly Stover sits in the
third position with a combined score of 109.2. The competition
will conclude on Sunday with the cones phase of the competition.
Two-time World Champion Valerie Kanavy rode Hott Property (sic)
to victory in the USET Endurance 75-Mile Championship Ride. She
finished with a ride time of 9 hours, 14 minutes and 31 seconds.
Second place went to Meg Sleeper, DVM, who rode Syrocco Blair
to a time of 9:24:30.
Susan Dutta rode West Side Lady to first place in the Intermediaire
I to take the lead after two of three phases in the USET Intermediaire
Dressage Championship. Dutta scored 70.700% to move ahead of Jan
Ebeling and Liberte who won the opening Prix St. Georges on Thursday.
Ebeling received a score of 68.600% and now trails Dutta entering
Sunday’s Freestyle.
In the National Disability Sports Alliance (NDSA) Individual Championship,
Barbara Grassmyer rode Bally Shannon to victory with a score of
67.467%. Grassmyer will be seeking her second consecutive NDSA
Championship during Sunday’s culminating Freestyle ride.
