3rd Annual San Diego County Fair Draft, Mule, and Friesian Horse Show

DEL MAR Fairgrounds - The San Diego County Fair, the 7th largest Fair in the United States, will present a multi-breed horse show that equestrian fans and fairgoers won't want to miss!

The San Diego County Fair's Draft, Mule, and Friesian Horse Show, June 13 - 15, promises to be an event like no other. The Del Mar Arena and Equestrian Center will thunder with the sound of big rigs pulled by gentle giants, 18 hands high, including Shires, Clydesdales, Percherons, and Belgians. Mules with foot-long ears and donkeys with sure-footed hooves will delight Fairgoers as they run through pole bending and barrel racing competitions.

Dozens of magnificent black-as-night Friesians will compete under saddle and in costume to transport spectators back to the enchanted days of noble steeds, knights, kingdoms, and the spectacular carriages of yore.

There is no other Horse Show, or competition in San Diego County like this one!

Nationally famous Draft Horses will haul-in from across the West to compete for the top-prize money in the $7,900 Six-Hitch Rail Class. The hitches will compete in Draft Tandem, Unicorn, Singles, Pairs, 4-Abreast, and Gambler's Choice events throughout the three days of the show.

Riders will perform bareback on giant Draft horses, jump in a Hunter Hack over fences, or use Draft Horses for Barrel Racing. Light and Heavy Pulls, Log Skidding, and Draft Farm Implement classes will be a big part of the show.

Mules will show off their talents in this year's newest Reining classes, as well as Western Riding, Pleasure, and Trail. Mules go over fences too, competing for ribbons in green English Jumping, Gamblers Choice Jumping, and coon Jumping. They'll also vie for the Mules Run, Ride & Lead, Pack Scramble, Pole Bending, Barrel Racing, and the Keyhole competitions.

A highlight of the show will be the Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales and their vintage Studebaker beer wagon that will make appearances at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and Sunday and at 5:00 p.m on the Saturday evening showcase. The steeds will travel the arena displaying their teamwork, which is a trademark of the Brewery they have come to represent. The Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales are internationally known, making appearances at venues across North America. The wagons used by the teams are Studebaker wagons (circa 1900) that were converted to deliver beer.

The Arena gate at the Fair opens at 8 a.m. The horse show kicks-off at 8 a.m. each day, June 13 - 15. Admission to the San Diego County Fair Draft, Mule, and Friesian Horse Show is free with Fair admission.

Fair admission is $10.50 for adults, $6 for senior citizens over 62 years old and $4.50 for children six to twelve. Children five and younger are admitted free. For more information please visit
