ILPH Director takes Retirement

Dr. Douglas Munro, the Director of the ILPH, is taking retirement and will shortly be leaving Snetterton.

“A number of factors have influenced my decision,” said Douglas Munro, “among them the fact that I have recently celebrated my 60th birthday.

“I will be leaving the ILPH in good shape and with an ever expanding role to play in the field of equine welfare.

“During my period as Director the League has lobbied effectively for a reduction in the level of transportation of live equines across the European Union, a cruel and unnecessary practice which we all hope will soon be brought to a halt.”

Says, Captain The Hon. Gerald Maitland-Carew, Chairman of the ILPH, “We thank Douglas for his work for the Charity over the past three years, and wish him well in the future. The ILPH looks forward to continuing the excellent progress made on a number of fronts, particularly the issue of the transportation of live horses for slaughter where significant advances have been achieved.”

The ILPH will be looking to restructure its administration following Dr. Munro’s departure, given the substantial expansion of its international role and the recent setting up of its £1m Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre at Penny Farm, just outside Blackpool, the sixth and latest of its UK Centres.
