Wellington Show Stables Sponsors Children’s Fair At National Horse Show

WELLINGTON, FL – November 14, 2003 – Wellington Show Stables, a full care facility encompassing boarding, training, importing and sales, is sponsoring a Children’s Fair on Saturday, November 29, at the 120th National Horse Show in Wellington, Florida. The Children’s Fair will be held from 11am until 3pm on the Great Lawn located behind the Special Events Pavilion. Children 12 and under are admitted free to the National Horse Show as well as to the Children’s Fair where they will be treated to rides, exhibits and clowns. Admission to the fair for those over 12 is included with their general admission ticket. The National Horse Show will be held November 26-30, 2003, at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club show grounds.

The Special Events team at The National has gone all out to create a memorable experience for the four-hour ‘carnival’. Attendees will enter under a specially created balloon arch made in the traditional National Horse Show colors of orange and black, amid clouds of bubbles from the Bubble Machine. Children can have their faces painted by one of the four clowns – who can also make a whimsical balloon animal for them – or perhaps visit the Tattoo Artist for a ‘temporary’ brand. For the high-energy set there’s a Western Moonwalk bouncy house, 24-foot Inflatable Super Slide, Rock Climbing Wall, Survivor Obstacle course with maze and bridge, and a Mechanical Bull ride. A roaming entertainer, the Cowboy Stiltwalker, is sure to delight all from his lofty perch. The Petting Zoo will feature cuddly creatures ranging from a guinea pig and a bunny to a goat and a miniature horse. On the wild side, kids can view Judy Barren’s cats – the big kind, including a cougar and a black panther! Pony Rides will also be available at $5. Food concessions will feature carnival favorites – cotton candy, popcorn, peanuts, and hot dogs.

The Children’s Fair expects to host as many as 1500 children. The Wellington Radio Club will have a booth on site to provide a safe haven for children should they become separated from their chaperones. Equipped with radios connected to security authorities and the PA system, a description of the child can be transmitted, assuring a quick reunion. Parents are encouraged to talk with WRC members about providing a child identification program in their children’s schools. An identification kit includes a photo, fingerprints, and other data in passport form.

The Children’s Fair sponsor, Wellington Show Stables, is owned by Helen Varble. A native of England, Ms. Varble notes that in Europe events like the fair are included with most top horse shows. She also knows from experience that kids at horse shows want more to do in addition to watching the competition. “We have a lot of kids that train and show with us and we also sponsor a lot of kids’ events, so I thought this would be a fun event for children at The National,” she said.

Wellington Show Stables, located off South Shore Boulevard close to the horse show grounds, specializes in Adult Hunters and Jumpers. Riders compete in local and A-rated shows in Florida and also travel to shows on the east coast throughout the summer months. Chad Watridge shows the hunters and jumpers for Ms. Varble. Wellington Show Stables also offers a full-time riding program with 24 school horses and ponies and four full time trainers, including Ali Oakley who specializes in Children and Ponies. The facility includes three sand rings, one grass ring, and miles of trails. Wellington Show Stables also imports quality horses for sale.
