Sportsmassage
Designed For Horses - On Show At Equine Fair
Sports-based
massage is often associated with top athletes. But visitors
to the Scottish Christmas Equine Fair, Royal Highland
Showground, Edinburgh on 6 and 7 December, will be able
to see how such alternative therapies can be used to
the benefits of horses too.
Pauline
Kidd from Physical Feng Shui will be on hand to discuss
the merits of Sportsmassage. Sportsmassage
prior to physical activity means that a horse's muscles
are relaxed and free, and more able to cope with the
stress of exertion. As a result, horses are less prone
to injury and are likely to recover more quickly if
they are injured.
Regular
sportsmassage can be an invaluable tool for competing
horses. Any muscular balances are noticed quickly and
can be addressed before developing into a serious injury.
Some of the common problems that sportsmassage
can overcome include refusing or resisting leads; 'hanging
a leg' over jumps; head and neck discomfort; shortened
strides; hind leg scuffing; improper tracking; hip and
shoulder lameness; girthing problems; muscular or 'cold'
back; and loss of performing ability.

Stop Planning for Equestrian Sport
Tessa
Jowell, Secretary of State at the Department of Culture
Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced that the British
Equestrian Federation has been selected as one of
the ten sports for the Government's new "One
Stop Planning" policy. At a presentation, attended
by the selected sports (see editors notes), the Minister
for Sport, Richard Caborn, the sports ministers from
Scotland and Wales and the chairs of their sports
councils, Tessa Jowell expressed her view that the
ten identified sports should regard themselves as
"trail blazers for sport" with "proven
ability to handle the challenges of planning as professional
national governing bodies".
|
One
stop planning is designed to drive success through better
coordination of the planning process across the UK wide
and home country levels, taking into account not only funding
decisions but also the need for sports to have a have a
concerted strategic vision for the longer term - to the
Beijing Olympiad and beyond.

British
Horse Society Equine Event seminar a success
The
British Horse Society's (BHS) 'Your Horse - Your Livery'
seminar which took place on both days of the British
Equine Event (1 - 2 November) proved to be one of the
most popular subjects and generated a great deal of
interest.
Hosted
by International show jumper Tim Stockdale, the audience
was updated on the much acclaimed BHS Approved Livery
Yard scheme, launched at the Royal International Horse
Show in 2002 and still generating ten enquiries a day.
203 livery yards now proudly display the 'green plaque',
showing that they have voluntarily joined a scheme setting
an acceptable standard of care in an area where, to
date, there is no other monitoring authority.

Charles
Wins At Liege
PETER
Charles justified the recent acquisition of <It's
Magic Max> at Liege, Belgium, with a decisive win
in the 1m45 Journal Spectacle Trophy last night (Saturday).
Charles,
who took home prize money of 3,225 euros into the
bargain, was at the centre of a controversy earlier
this year when the English-owned nine yr old bay gelding
- regarded as a possible Olympic horse for the British
team - passed into the hands of the Irish rider, and,
therefore, the Irish show jumping team.
<It's
Magic Max> has shown some good form in recent months
under the experienced eye of his new rider, but this
win at Liege, against a formidable startlist containing
some of Europe's best riders and horses, will confirm
to selectors that Peter Charles is still very much
a force to be reckoned with. Please

Mar Fairgrounds hosting 300 horses, more than 50 are unclaimed
DEL MAR, CA - As of 5:00 p.m. on Halloween, the Del Mar
Fairgrounds was still housing 310 horses and other assorted
livestock while the Del Mar Horsepark is hosting 70 horses
that had been relocated as a result of the Firestorm that

a large area of San Diego County.
More than 50 horses at the Fairgrounds have gone unclaimed
by their owners. Images of 34 of the stray horses are now
posted on the Del Mar Fairgrounds website at: www.sdfair.com/lost_horse_photos.php.
People looking for their missing horses are encouraged to
view the website before going to the Fairgrounds to look
for their horses.
In addition to horses of all shapes and types, the Fairgrounds
is also housing several sheep, ducks, and an emu, but all
of those animals have identified owners.

Dances

A
Fall Welcome From
Frank Bell & Dances With Horses Inc.
After record-breaking temperatures in the west, were
reveling in my favorite time of the year. Were all
more comfortable with cool mornings and evenings and the
absence of bugs. Our horses have more stamina and just feel
better. Its the ideal time of year to get some extra
riding in before winter and leave our horses in a great
place mentally and physically, especially if they wont
be ridden during the colder months. Be sure to feed up the
hard keepers adding a little extra weight as we head into
winter.
