TEST EVENT FO THE FEI JUMPING WORLD CUP FINAL IN MILAN

>From 19 to 21 December 2003, the Forum of Assago, just outside of Milan (Italy) will host a CSI 3* that will serve as Test Event for the 2004 FEI Jumping World Cup Final. It will be the first time that the World Cup Final is organised in Italy. The Final was allocated to Milan last July and, as the venue has never before hosted an equestrian competition, it was decided that the CSI 3* already scheduled for December in the same venue, would be used as official Test Event for the final.

The Italian Equestrian Federation (FISE), which takes care of the organisation through its own exerienced team as well as with the support of its Regional branch (Comitato FISE Lombardia), has already defined all technical aspects together with the FEI during a joint meeting that took place in early November in Milan.

The CSI 3* Master Milano – Winter Show Jumping will use exactly the same infrastructures as the final: 190 stables will be built in a covered pavillion of the Forum; the competition ring (35 x 75) will test the same sand footing; the collecting ring will be in a temporary structure adjacent to the stables (30 X 80).

The Italian Christmas show will feature three classes per day with the highlight on Sunday with the Grand Pix Città di Milano that will offer a prize money of 40.000 €. An invitational CDI will also take be organised in the frame of the event.

FEI TUTOR’S COURSE
Army Equitation School, Dublin (IRL), 17-19 November 2003

Further to the task the FEI gave to the FEI Development Working Group to create a coaching structure for developing national federations, the FEI asked a group of leading trainers, all of whom have worked in developing National Federations to become the first FEI Tutors. They are Karl-Heinz Giebmanns (GER), Lars Meyer zu Bexten (GER), Kathy Amos Jacob (FRA), Jean-Philippe Camboulives (FRA), Susanne Macken (IRL), Daan Nanning (NED), Peter Strijbosch (NED) and Lt Col Gerry Mullins (IRL).

The task of the tutors will be to implement the FEI Coaching System and conduct courses for coaches in developing regions. To achieve this goal, this panel of experts met in Dublin, at the Army Equitation School, the domain of Lt. Col. Gerry Mullins, Chairman of the FEI Development Working Group, where a specific course focusing on interactive adult education communication’s techniques and tutoring was held. This course was conducted by a renowned expert in communication, Liam Moggan from the National Coaching & Training Centre (NCTC) in Limerick (IRL).

Apart from the practical sessions where FEI Tutors were instructed on and practised Tutor and Coaching techniques, the participants enjoyed a very interesting lecture on “The Rider Pathway to Excellence” by Dr Istvan Balyi, NCTC International Advisor on Long term Player/Athlete Development. Mr Pat Duffy, Chair of the NCTC gave a short presentation on the history of the NCTC and how they develop the Coach Education Syllabi (menu) for all sports in Ireland and the relationship and differences between Coaching and Tutoring techniques.

The course was organised thanks to Lt Col. Gerry Mullins, Commanding Officer, The Army Equitation School, Dublin, in conjunction with the National Coaching & Training Centre in Limerick and the Equestrian Federation of Ireland (EFI).
