FEI/GANDINI WORLD JUMPING RIDERS RANKINGS
Beerbaum firmly keeps his pole position

Ludger Beerbaum (GER) is the undisputed leader of the 2001 World Rankings. He keeps his first place with some 800 points more than his runner-up Ludo Philippaerts (BEL). Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) goes up from rank 5 to rank 3, he earned 160 points in Aahrus World Cup and 75 in Helsinki.

Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (SWE) and Hugo Simon (AUT) exchange places and are now respectively 8th and 9th.

The American riders’ good results in the World Cup circuit were rewarded in October. Beezie Madden-Patton goes up from 23rd to 17th place and is now the Leading Lady Rider, and the best US rider. Ray Texel goes up to 18th place, followed by Leslie Howard at 19th place.

A special edition of the World Riders Rankings will be issued on 18 November to decide on the participation field of the Final of the Top Ten to be held in Geneva (SUI) on 8 December. A battle is expected between the riders from the 8th to 12th ranks, which are all very close to each other. The November 2000 points will be dropped until the 18 November included. This means that Lansink will drop 165 points, Simon 270 (!) and Bengtsson 35 only. The shruggle will be tough this weekend in CSI-W Verona and te following two weeks in Toronto, Vienna and Stuttgart.

The 11th edition of the FEI/Gandini World Riders Rankings published on 18 November will replace the edition of 1 December. The last ranking list of the year will be published after Olympia.

FEI/BCM WORLD DRESSAGE RIDERS RANKINGS: Ulla Salzgeber gets over 80!

For the first time of the year, the leader of the FEI/BCM Dressage Riders Rankings, Ulla Salzgeber (GER) reaches a record score of 80.023 points.

Lars Petersen (DEN) breaks the hegemony of the German riders at the three first places and proudly takes the 2nd position thanks to his excellent performance at Aahrus CDI***.

Nadine Capellmann, second in the Kür of Düsseldorf, keeps her 3rd position ahead of Isabell Werth who is now 4th.

We also note the constant progress of Lisa Wilcox (USA), who goes up from 10th to 8th place, thanks to her first place in the Kür of Bremen and her good results in the Grand Prix and Kür of Düsseldorf.

FEI GEOGRAPHICAL GROUPS I AND II MET IN PAU

In conjunction with the European Eventing Championship in Pau, Group I and II organised their second annual meeting last 12 October. Both Groups met separately in the morning and joined together for the afternoon session.

The main topics of discussion were the proposed changes in Eventing, as well as the latest developments in the discipline of Endurance. NF representatives also discussed at length their role and their relationship with the Organisers and the FEI. The strengthening of their respective NF and the improvement of cooperation will be the main theme of a meeting to be organised in conjunction with the 2002 FEI General Assembly, next April in Rabat (MOR).

TSUNEKAZU TAKEDA BECOMES JPN NOC PRESIDENT

During the Extraordinary Council of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) held last 24 October, the FEI 2nd Vice President Mr Tsunekazu Takeda (JPN) was named President of the JOC. Aged 53, Takeda is the youngest president in the history of the JOC. Vice President of the Japanese Equestrian Federation, he served as sport director for the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano.

IN MEMORIAM

Dr Edgar Hotz, prominent American Dressage judge, died on 17 October 2001, aged 60. Respected national and international judge, he officiated at numerous events including World Cup Finals. Edgar Hotz was highly appreciated as instructor for aspiring judges and conducted many seminars. He was very active in the USA NF and served on several committees and on the AHSA Board of Director from 1996 to 1998.
