Jim Baker, USA Equestrian Licensed Official, Passes Away

Jim Baker, a respected USA Equestrian Board of Directors member and licensed judge, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2002. Baker was 67.

For more than a quarter of a century, Baker provided his skills to the sport, and held many 'R' licenses including Western and Stock Seat Equitation. Additionally, he was a distinguished licensed judge of Arabians and Reining.

"Jim Baker has been a longtime supporter of USA Equestrian, especially in the Working Western areas, and was a founding member of the Western Council," said Christina Stewart, Director of Breeds & Western disciplines for USA Equestrian.

Baker is survived by his wife, Susan, as well as two brothers, four daughters and three granddaughters.


USA Equestrian Inc., as the National Equestrian Federation of the U.S., is the regulatory body for the Olympic and World Championship sports of dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, reining, show jumping, and vaulting, as well as 19 other breeds and disciplines of equestrian competition. As
the country's largest multi-breed organization, the Federation has over 80,000 members and recognizes more than 2,800 competitions nationwide each year. It governs all aspects of competition, including educating and licensing all judges, stewards, and technical delegates who officiate at these shows.
