HorseIT.com launches updated reference section at the British Equine Event in association with Duchy College.

HorseIT.com, the equestrian internet portal with approximately 60,000 users per month is to launch its newly researched student reference section at the British Equine Event 2003.

The reference section was first designed in 2001 by Tracy Webb who was at that time undertaking an HND industry placement with HorseIT.com.

The reference section aims to cut down on the time spent by students looking for information on the internet on specific equine based topics by placing all relevant links in one easy to use area.

"I came up with the idea of providing an educational internet base for equine students after spending the best part of a day surfing the web in search of information on 'Modified Acid Detergent Fibre' which ended up to be a frustrating experience as I seemed to be going around in circles" said Tracy who has since graduated from the University of Plymouth with a BSc (Hons) in Animal Science (Equine) and is now Senior Sales Executive at HorseIT Ltd.

Whilst studying for her degree Tracy made the most of the contact she made with Tessa Counsell, HE Equine Programme Manager at Duchy College who also lectures equine science at the University of Plymouth (Seale Hayne) and approached Tessa with her ideas for redesigning the reference section.

The reference section has until recently only covered four very broad topics. Now with 23 subject areas, the content has been based on the modules on offer in the Foundation degrees run by Duchy College and validated by the University of Plymouth.Tracy says: "I am very pleased to have the support of Tessa Counsell and
Duchy College. They have helped provide the structure of the project and I cannot thank them enough for their assistance and support".

Tessa Counsell, HE Equine Programme Manager at Duchy College articulates: "I have been very pleased to be involved with HorseIT.com, more or less since its inception, and can honestly say how useful my students have found the site as a study aid. It was particularly pleasing to the equine team here at Duchy College that the new reference section has been designed around our new Foundation degrees, in Equine Sports Performance and Equine Behaviour & Training, as we feel these programmes encompass the topics which are essential to provide educated personnel for the equine industry in the 21st. century. On all programmes of higher education such as these
students are expected to research broadly, and to use reputable websites, such as HorseIT.com, alongside textbooks and journals. Good websites also have the benefit of providing links to other students and web resources all over the world - the equine industry is truly global!"

The reference section provides direct links to useful websites and information on websites around the world which have been selected according to their relevance to the curriculum taught by Duchy College in their Foundation degrees in Equine Sports Performance and Equine Behaviour & Training programmes. It also provides information on opportunities available in both education and the employment market with links to organisations that provide information on UK employment law, career advice
and the rights of disabled people in the educational institution and in the workplace.
