The Blue Cross appoints new director of equine welfare

Kerstin Alford has been appointed director of equine welfare at The Blue Cross animal welfare charity.

Kerstin joins the charity following ten years at the British Horse Society, most recently as head of welfare. Having worked within the horse industry in a variety of disciplines from studs to racing and competition yards, Kerstin has a wide range of equestrian expertise. She has also experienced horse care and welfare worldwide with working trips to the Middle East and South America.

The owner of three horses, a dog and several cats, Kerstin enjoys both riding and driving.

As one of Britain’s oldest animal welfare charities, The Blue Cross has been providing expert care and veterinary treatment for horses and ponies for more than a century. Today the charity rehabilitates and re-homes horses and ponies that have been neglected, ill-treated or are unwanted and provides them with a fulfilled future in a new home.

Kerstin says: "I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Blue Cross team. It is an exciting opportunity to develop the charity's valuable equine welfare work to help many more horses and owners in need, building on the excellent service that is already being provided."

The Blue Cross is Britain's pet charity, providing information, advice and practical support for pet and horse owners. Through its network of animal adoption centres it rehomes thousands of animals each year. Its hospitals provide veterinary care for the pets of people who cannot afford private vets' fees.
