WEG Show Jumping Final - Lennon Through To Top 4 Final On Sunday

IRELAND¹S DERMOTT LENNON, riding the Irish-bred mare, Liscalgot, is now through to the World Top Four who will compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain, tomorrow (Sunday).

In the penultimate show jumping competition today (Saturday), Lennon incurred just eight faults, enough to qualify him for tomorrow¹s World Individual Final.

Ireland had three riders in the World's Top 25 today - Lennon, Peter Charles and Kevin Babington - all of whom incurred only four faults each in the first round. Babington and Charles had clear second rounds, but because Lennon came into today's penultimate competition in overall 6th, his chance of making the cut for the Top Four was always best.

The final result today, which is based on aggregate scores over four days of jumping at the Games were as follows:

2) FEIN CERA; Peter WYLDE (USA) Total Penalties 9.55
3) UTFORS MYNTA; Helena LUNDBACK (SWE) Total Penalties 11.62
4) LISCALGOT; Dermott LENNON (IRL) Total Penalties 13.16

Ireland¹s Kevin Babington finished 8th overall, on 14.93 penalties, while Peter Charles finished 10th on 18.85 penalties. Ireland's fourth team rider, Cian O'Connor, was out of the individual competition after a freak fall in the Nations Cup competition on Thursday, which forced his retirement from the Games.

Lennon enters tomorrow's World Individual Final on a zero score, as do the other three riders, and the medal places will be determined by each rider competing on the others' horses over a difficult jumping course.
