Irish Sport Horses have seen another successful year on the competitive circuit pass with their achievement of the following results at major shows and events worldwide:

Showjumping

Nations Cup Classes 2003

The Irish Nations Cup teams have had a successful run to date, winning three Nations Cup classes and being placed second in three as follows:

horse • Won at Aachen, Germany, June 22nd: Team included two Irish Sport Horses, Coolcorron Cool Diamond ridden by Robert Splaine and Carling King ridden by Kevin Babington.
• Won at St Gallen, Switzerland, June 1st: Team included two Irish Sport Horses, Coolcor ron Cool Diamond ridden by Robert Splaine and Carling King ridden by Kevin Babington.
• Won at Hamina, Finland, June 15th: Team included three Irish Sport Horses, Killossery rid den by Lt. Shane Carey, Bornacoola ridden by Capt. Gerry Flynn and Gelvin Clover ridden by Clement McMahon.
• Second at Rome, Italy, May 25th: Team included three Irish Sport Horses, Lismakin ridden by Lt. Shane Carey, Windgates King Koal ridden by Conor Swail and Carling King ridden by Kevin Babington.
• Second at Wellington, USA, March 9th: Team included Carling King ridden by Kevin Babington.
• Second at Hickstead, UK, July 25th: Team included Carling King ridden by Kevin Babington.

Double Clear rounds were jumped by Killossery and Lt. Shane Carey at Hamina, Carling King and Kevin Babington at Rome, Gelvin Clover and Clement McMahon at Falsterbo, Sweden and Coolcorron Cool Diamond and Robert Splaine at La Baule, France.

Irish Sport Horses also brought success for foreign nations with Quick Flash ridden by Samantha McIntosh jumping a double clear to help the Bulgarian team win at Sofia, while Richmont Park and Royne Zetterman were a part of Swedens win at Falsterbo. Sails Away, ridden by S. Numminen, made up part of the Finnish team which were second, behind Ireland, in the Hamina Nations Cup and Mister Springfield, ridden by Robert Smith (GBR) recently jumped for the winning British team in the Hickstead Nations Cup.

Ponies:
Young Irish riders competing at the Freudenberg (GER) CSIOP also did Ireland proud by winning the Pony Nations Cup there. The team consisted of Anthony Condon riding Mister Polo Bear, Nicola Fitzgibbons riding Miami Bound, Mark Flynn riding Kilcannon Explosion and Mark McAuley riding Shalom Outlaw. The same team, with the addition of Bertie Brown and Claire Condon in place of Miami Bound, took the Bronze medal at the European Pony Championships, Necarne Castle on July 27th. In the Individual Eventing Championships Irish Beauty ridden by Julia Weiser (GER) won Gold while Aero Flyer and Sara Glynn (IRL) took Bronze.

He was also 7th in the $50,000 Commonwealth Grand Prix, Lexington, Kentucky on May 11th.
• Coolcorron Cool Diamond ridden by Robert Splaine (IRL) was fourth in the La Baule, France CSIO Grand Prix on May 11th and fifth in the Pontedera CSI B Grand Prix on February 2nd.
• Chippison ridden by Marie Burke (IRL) was seventh in the Queen Elisabeth Grand Prix at the Hickstead CSIO 5* on July 27th.
• Eezy ridden by Duncan McFarlane (NZL) was fourth in the Indio, USA CSI W on February 2nd and was 6th in the $50,000 Grand Prix at the Indio CSI W on February 23rd.
• Furistos Treasure ridden by Tricia O’Connor (USA) was third in the Ocala, Florida Grand Prix on January 26th and again on February 19th. He came tenth in the $50,000 Ocala Grand Prix on February 9th and was also tenth in the Devon, PA $75,000 Grand Prix on May 29th.
• Hilton Flight ridden by R. Spooner (USA) was fourth in the Spruce Meadows CSI 5* $70,000 Grand Prix on July 5th.
• Killossery ridden by Lt. Shane Carey (IRL) was fifth in the Grand Prix at the Drammen, Norway CSIO 4*on June 29th and was 8th in the Monaco CSI A Grand Prix on April 12th.
• Mister Springfield ridden by Robert Smith (GBR) was third in the Bordeaux, France CSI W Grand Prix on February 10th.
• Point Blank ridden by Christian Gurey (USA) was sixth in the Conyers, Georgia, USA €25,000 Grand Prix on March 26th.
• Richmont Park ridden by Royne Zetterman (SWE) was fifth in the Grand Prix at the Falsterbo, Sweden CSIO 5* on July 13th.
• Royal Charmer ridden by Markus Fuchs (SUI) was third in the Monte Carlo, Monaco CSI*** Grand Prix on April 11th and was fifth in the S’Hertogenbosch CSI W Audi Grand Prix on March 23rd.
• Two Mills Showtime ridden by Robert Maguire (GB) was 6th in the Arezzo, Italy CSI A Grand Prix on April 20th and was 7th in the Pontedera, Italy Grand Prix on May 18th.
• Windgates King Koal ridden by Conor Swail (IRL) was third in the Modena, Italy CSI 3* Grand Prix on May 4th and fourth in the Rome CSIO 5* Grand Prix on May 25th.

• Shannondale ridden by Lt. Shane Carey (IRL) won 1m45 class at the Rome CSIO 5*, May 22nd.
• Sails Away ridden by S. Numminen (FIN) won 1m55 class at Munich CSI 3*, May 30th.
• Tomgar Rocky ridden by HD Dreher (GER) won 1m40 class at Drammen, Norway CSIO 4* on June 28th.
• Windgates Sensation ridden by Conor Swail (IRL) won 1m35 class at the Vittel CSI 3* on April 25th.
• Windgates Mystique ridden by Conor Swail (IRL) won 1m35 class at Cervia CSI A, May 11th.
• Windgates King Koal ridden by Conor Swail (IRL) won 1m45 class at the Bourg en Bresse CSI 3*,
June 6th.

EVENTING

It has been another winning year for Irish Sport Horses with the following results proving that very few can beat an Irish Sport Horse in the Eventing Stakes!

Supreme Rock (ISH) reigned supreme at the Badminton CCI**** 2003. European Champion since 1999 at Luhmuhlen and Team and Individual European Champion at Pau in 2001, aswell as Team Olympic Silver Medallist at the Sydney Olympics in 2000 and Team Bronze at WEG 2002, Supreme Rock (ISH) this year won the premier Horse Trials event in the world for the second year running. Irish bred horses were out in force at Badminton this year with seventeen of them finishing in the final forty four placings. Five Irish Sport Horses, including winner Supreme Rock (ISH), took the following positions in the final top twelve:

• 8th place ~ Hannigan (ISH) ridden by Phillip Dutton (AUS).
• 9th place ~ Ringwood Cockatoo (ISH) ridden by Bettina Hoy (GER).
• 12th place ~ Captain Christy (ISH) ridden by Kristina Cook (GBR).

The Rolex Kentucky CCI 4* Three Day Event (April 24th to 28th 2003) finished with two Irish Sport Horses in the top five final placings. Moon Man (ISH), ridden by William Fox-Pitt (GBR), took third place after picking up four faults in the showjumping phase. Shear L’Eau (ISH), ridden by Leslie Law (GBR), finished fifth. In total, eleven Irish bred horses competed in Lexington making up one fifth of the fifty six competitors there.

The Bramham International Horse Trials (CCI***) from June 5th to 8th 2003, was yet another major three day event in which first place was claimed by an Irish Sport Horse. Following Supreme Rocks (ISH) achievement at Badminton, fellow Irish Sport Horse Wallow, ridden by William Fox-Pitt (GBR) won top prize at Bramham. William Fox-Pitt (GBR) had a very successful run at Bramham as he also took second place with another Irish Sport Horse, Ballincoola. In total, eight Irish Sport Horses finished in the top twenty at this event, four of them in the top ten. These were the above Wallow and Ballincoola with The Wexford Lady (ISH) coming in seventh and Mary Kings (GBR) King George II (ex Ballyhane Imp ISH) finishing tenth.

Irish Sport Horses also made their presence felt at Burgie CCI** and CCI* (June 13th-15th) with Peterstreet (ISH) ridden for Great Britain by Gary Parsonage taking the honours in the two star class after completing on his dressage score, and Sarah Ennis (IRL) finishing a close second riding Killossery Kobra (ISH) in the CCI* class, also completing on their dressage score. This combination were second in the Future Event Horse League Five Year old final at Tattersalls, Co Meath in 2002.

The Gatcombe British Open Championship (August 1st-3rd) found Moon Man (ISH) and William Fox-Pitt (GBR) take second place with Shear L’Eau (ISH) ridden by Leslie Law (GBR) fourth, The Wexford Lady (ISH) ridden by Sarah Cutteridge (GBR) sixth, Shear H2O (ISH) also ridden by Leslie Law (GBR) eighth and Captain Christy (ISH) ridden by Kristina Cook (GBR) ninth.

Shear L’Eau (ISH) and Leslie Law (GBR) took the number one spot at the Lulworth (GB) CIC***, on July 27th. Leslie Law (GBR) also rode Matt Butler (ISH) to come fifth at the Chatsworth CIC*** on May 11th. Over in the US, at the Jersey Fresh Allenwood, New Jersey CCI** from May 29th to June 1st, Gorta Glen (ISH) ridden by David O’Connor (USA) won first place with Jumbarlara (ISH) ridden by Gayle Molander (USA) taking fifth. Earlier in the year, the Tallahasse, CIC** (March 7th-9th) was won by Sailing (ISH) and Stuart Black (USA). The Lexington, Virginia CCI* (May 16th-18th) was won by Regal Wood (ISH) ridden by Darren Chiacchia (USA) while the CCIYH* at the same event was won by Starlight (ISH) ridden by Stuart Black (USA). McKinlaigh (ISH) ridden by Gina Miles (USA) won the Jaguar Select edition CIC W***, in Georgia, USA on April 6th and also won the Temecula CIC*** on March 29.

The British Eventing Grand Prix at Hickstead (July 23rd-27th) found Drunken Disorderly (ISH) and Mark Kyle (IRL) take second, followed by Word Perfect (ISH) and Chris Bartle (GBR) in fourth place.
