FEI Eventing World Cup News

Leslie Law (GBR), riding the 11-year old gelding Shear L'eau, won the 11th leg of the FEI Eventing World Cup held at the Lulworth International Horse Trials (GBR) from 25 through 27 July. The pair, whose final result was 52.1, became convincing winners after performing a good Dressage test (45.1) and scoring only one penalty point in the Cross Country for exceeding the time allowed.

Lulworth is Leslie Law's second participation in a World Cup qualifier. He was also present in Chatsworth in May where he placed 5th riding Matt Butler and earned 14 points. The 30 points that this victory brings to Leslie place him among the leaders of the standings and insure him qualification for the Final in Pau (FRA). Law, currently 4th in the FEI World Eventing Rankings, is the second British rider along with the Ranking's leader William Fox-Pitt to win a World Cup qualifier.

Rodney Powell (GBR), riding the 14-year old gelding Flintstone IV, performed the competition's best Dressage test (45.5) and placed 2nd with a final result of 58.5 points. He was followed by Ireland's Sasha Harrison on All Love du Fenaud.

The performance of the young Irish rider Pip Peters should also be noted. She performed the competition's only clear Cross Country riding her own 10-year old gelding Tir Na Doone. This is all the more remarkable given the heavy rain. She had only one fence down in the Show Jumping but because of her average Dressage performance (66.2), she took the 11th position. This is Pip's second World Cup participation following her remarkable debut in Chatsworth where she place 3rd following William Fox-Pitt and Pippa Funnell.

The twelfth World Cup leg held at the same time at Morgan Park, Warwick (AUS) was none the less exciting.

Megan Jones (AUS), riding the 12-year old stallion Kirby Park Irish Hallmark, won the qualifier with remarkable final 44.26 points. Her outstanding Dressage result of 38.26 and her clear Show Jumping round led her to undisputed victory despite the 6 Cross Country time penalties. Megan also competed in the first Australian World Cup qualifier at Werribee Park, Melbourne, where, despite a very good Dressage test, she placed 4th. She is the third Australian rider after Philip Dutton and Nick Roe to score 30 points counting towards the final standings, which guarantees her presence at the Final.

Kadi Eykamp (AUS) and Iz'bella Rossellini took the 2nd place with 55.26 points followed by Michael Baker (AUS) on GS Chevalier with 58.06.

The winner of first Australian World Cup qualifier Nick Roe on Wondaree Hooley Dooley, placed 4th in a tie with Claudia Graham on Diamond B Vogue with 62.25 points. Both of them scored 58.25 for Dressage, had no Cross Country penalties and knocked down one fence each during the Jumping test. The only other clear Cross Country round went to the 19-year old Thai rider Pongsiree Bunbluewong on Eliza Jane who, with a final result of 80.17 points, took the 10th position.
