Show Jumping - Babington Fails To Dent German Supremacy At Euro Finals

DESPITE racking up one of only two double clear rounds in the whole of the European Team show jumping championships on Thursday, Ireland's Kevin Babington failed to repeat the magic in the Individual championships today (Sunday).

Hopes were high as US-based Babington, from Carrick-on-Suir, went into the arena today ranked fourth out of 25 riders after his scores on Thursday and Friday, but with the middle part of the combination fence down and a toe in the water in the first round, he quickly slipped to 12th position overall.

The last fence down in the second round marginally improved his position to 11th in the Final, but German domination of the competition proved unassailable, and the home country finished with the top three places, to add to their team championship win on Friday. Only 19 riders took part in the second round today.
