Dublin Horse Show - Schroder Wins Samsung Grand Prix At Dublin, O'Connor Again Takes Leading Rider Trophy

WITH both the defence of the European Championship and the seventh leg of the Samsung Super League coming up within weeks, Ireland's Billy Twomey and Cian O'Connor rode understandably cautious opening rounds in the Grand Prix at Dublin today (Sunday), but the two riders nevertheless made it to the seven-horse jump-off, with clears.

However, in the second round, O'Connor on <Waterford Crystal> took one fence down in an otherwise steady round, but Twomey managed a classic clear on <Luidam> without sacrificing speed. Unfortunately, Netherlands rider Wim Schroder on the 10 year-old bay gelding <Eurocommerce Montreal> also went clear, but was just over a second faster than Twomey on Linda Allen's very testing course, and could not be beaten by any of the remaining finalists.

O'Connor ended in Sixth position, but his consistently top class performance during the last five days earned him the show's Leading Rider Trophy for the second year in succession.
