Autumn Festival of Jerez will envelop the World Equestrian Games

the 6th to the 24th september, wine and flamenco combine with
horses in special way owing to the World Equestrian Games

RELEASE (August 2002, Jerez de la Frontera, Spain).- Jerez Autumn
Festival forms a cycle of festive activities which gather those
features which have projected the image of Jerez internationally.
During those days the city becomes the centre of the festival. Its
streets and squares are full of people from Jerez and visitors who
walk through the old town wishing to enjoy the diverse leisure activities
that have been prepared for this occasion.
The
elements which make up this festival are part of our millenary tradition.
The new must which announces the birth of the wine after a rigorous
summer, the horse, companion of fatigue and entertainment, especially
the Carthusian horse which constitutes one of the most emblematic
protagonists of Jerez, and flamenco, deep expression of a lineage
to which all the people of Jerez belong.
This
Festival in its eleventh year presents a special event as Jerez
will host the World Equestrian Games 2002. This event represents
the award and recognition to a city which has maintained, preserved
and promoted this noble animal from time immemorial.

Jerez
and the Wine: Ritual
The
sherry wine, which is several thousand years old, is one of
the few wines which has succeded in resisting the passage
of time. Any of its different types represent a sign of distinction,
warm reception and quality.

The
horses of Jerez have always enjoyed a well deserved national
and international prestige. From time immemorial Jerez has
devoted itself to the breeding and reproduction of these animals
and it would be difficult to understand a celebration in this
city without the participation of its horses.

Flamenco,
which constitutes a unique expression of feelings, will be
continuously present in this festival, with its dancing and
singing, typical of the birth place of black sounds. Flamenco
performances will comfort our souls at the same time as the
magic of Jerez will spread all over the city.

Jerez
During
the Autumn Festival Jerez constitutes an immense fairground
where numerous activities are held. Culture, entertainment,
shows and music will make up the cycle of activities which
will favour the ability that Jerez has to enjoy any of its
numerous events.
