International Show Jumping Event To Launch In Sheffield

Steel City Jumping Limited (SCJL) has today announced an investment of £750,000 into the launch of a new international show jumping event. The inaugural show, the first major new indoor show jumping championships to be held in this country for over thirty years, will be staged at Sheffield Arena from Thursday 24th - Sunday 27th April 2003.

SCJL is a subsidiary of Grandstand Group, which also owns Grandstand Media, the team behind the resurgence of the Horse of The Year Show.

"I am delighted that a new world class equestrian show is to be launched in this country, and it is another high profile international event which Sheffield is proud to host. I know the public will turn out in force to back the event and prove once again that there is a big appetite for top quality sport in Sheffield." Said the Honourable Richard Caborn MP, Minister for sport and MP for Sheffield central.

The Show will host a full programme of world class international show jumping and, with a substantial six figure prize fund is sure to attract the top riders world wide.

Yorkshire based John Whitaker, a leading international show jumper and consultant to the show commented: "I have always believed that the North of England deserves an event of this calibre. I have discussed this project over the past couple of years with many of the world's leading riders who are all really excited about this new addition to the international equestrian calendar."

This is the first ever equestrian event to be held at the award winning Sheffield Arena which is recognised as one of the leading sporting venues in the country and has established an excellent reputation for hosting world class events.

Mark Wein, SCJL director stated: "It is fitting that this major international show will be held within Yorkshire, the breeding ground for so many of our leading British horses and riders.

With family from Sheffield and having lived there myself, I know that the large equestrian community in the region will welcome the opportunity to experience such a prestigious world class event and we therefore look forwards to welcoming all visitors to the show at Easter."
