International Young Riders Festival, Hagen a.T.W. (Ger)

From 30 July to 5 August, Hagen was dedicated to the youth and hosted three FEI European Championships for Juniors and Pony riders as well as the FEI/PSI World Challenge Finals 2001, without mentioning national classes.

About 35'000 spectators on Saturday and on Sunday went to encourage and applaud riders participating in the FEI European Junior Jumping Championship, European Dressage Pony Championship, FEI European Eventing Pony Championship, as well as the finalists of the FEI World Jumping Challenge, World Dressage Challenge and Children Dressage Competition. All competitions took place at Ullrich Kasselmann's stables, except the European Eventing Pony Championship, which was organised at Bramsche/Engter, 30 min from Hagen. A total of 51 nations were represented and among those Zimbabwe, Paraguay, Belarus, India and New
Zealand.

Friendship and solidarity prevailed during the whole event.

Samsung Nations Cup ; Battle for the Final

Four teams are in a battle to qualify for the Samsung Nations Cup Final, which will take place from 22 to 25 August in Donaueschingen (GER).

The total number of teams in the Final will be eight (including the home team). The top six teams qualify for the final, plus two wild cards (1 for the home team, one for an overseas team). As the home team, Germany, is leading the standings with a comfortable 63 points, no wild card will be needed to qualify them. Consequently, the best 7 teams of the standings will go to the Final, plus one wild card for the best overseas team (USA).
The Top 5 of the current standings (Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and France have secured their place to the Final. This week-end in Dublin and Bratislava, four teams will have to fight for the two remaining seats: Switzerland (6th with 33 points), Sweden (7th with 31 points), Ireland (8th with 30 points) and Great Britain (9th with 28 points).

In addition to the Nations' Cup on Friday, there are nine other international competitions during the show, providing exciting viewing for over 20,000 spectators in the Main Arena. Over 1,500 horses, including stallions, brood mares and foals, hunters, horses and ponies take part in 90 showing classes and national jumping
competitions.

No changes in the Top Ten. Ludger Beerbaum still leads the rankings with 3547 points, ahead of Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (SWE).

In Memoriam

Romano Macrí (ITA) one of the pioneer of Endurance in Italy, recently passed away, aged 44. He defended the Italian colours in the most important international
endurance rides, including three European and three World Championships. International Endurance Judge, member of the Italian National Commission since 1999, Romano Marcrí acted as technical consultant for developing Endurance at the Qatar Equestrian Federation for several years.

Victor Hugo-Vidal (USA), passed away on 3 August 2002 aged 68. Named Horseman of the Year in 1971 by the USA NF, Hugo Vidal was a trainer, breeder and served on several committees of the USA NF such as the Hunter Seat Equitation, Licensed Officials Committee and the Drugs & Medications Committee. Recognised judge in several disciplines, he also served on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the USA NF for several years.

UAE NF
Since 1999, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Equestrian and Racing Federation produces the FEI Endurance Riders Rankings. The 2001 edition was won by Dato Kamruddin bin Abdul Ghani (MAS).

DRIVING
