Show Jumping - Kerrygold Grand Prix League - Breen Takes Newcastle West, Jmps Up League Standings

SHANE Breen today (Sunday) produced one of the surprises for which the Kerrygold League is famous, and catapulted himself into Fourth place with two good Grand Prix placings back-to-back.

A win at Newcastle West today on his own <Luandra>, coupled with a Second at Limerick yesterday gave him a total of 18 League points, which racked his total up to 53, and brought him in one place above Linda Courtney on the leaderboard.

He said: < I'm delighted with this. It was a good course built by James Tarrant, and the footing was good and the weather ideal. Newcastle West excelled themselves with the organisation of the whole event, and there was a great attendance.>

Breen also took a Sixth place on Austin Broderick's <Iman d'Occagnes>, but under League rules, only the higher-placed horse earns points.

Danielle Quinlivan on Billy Daly's <Newmarket Girl> had a scorching time of 39.98 in the jump-off, but a single pole down relegated her to Fifth.

Just eight riders made it through to the jump-off from a field of 38, and there were three non-starters.
