Top Show Jumper Donates Bursary For Limerick Charity Show

A bursary for a week's training with top international show jumper Cian O'Connor is guaranteed to swell the coffers of the Limerick and District Horse and Pony Owners Show on Saturday, July 19, as the organisers continue their worthy bid to raise money for Milford Hospice.

The bursary, for a week's tuition at O'Connor's Karlswood Stables, Co Meath, was donated by the Nations Cup rider. It will be auctioned off following the 3,000 euro Grand Prix, which is also sponsored by Kildare-born O'Connor and Crecora's own show jumping star Lieutenant Shane Carey.

The Grand Prix is part of the Kerrygold League and will attract the country's top show jumping exponents, as they bid for the top prize and valuable points.

The show, to be held in Crecora, Co Limerick, is the 11th to date, with a total of 29,000 euro raised for Milford Hospice. In addition to supporting the hospice, the organisers donated 3,000 euro to the Special Olympics this year.

Details of the show were announced at a press reception in Jurys Hotel, Limerick, last Friday (July 4) attended by the Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council, Bridgid Teefy.

In total, the show boasts 22 classes, including Munster Championships qualifiers and qualifiers for Millstreet Show. Five arenas will ensure an entertaining day for spectators, who will be provided with free refreshments, though a donation to the charity will be welcomed.

The show takes place on the land of Sean and Mary Carey - parents of Lt Shane Carey - in Kilpeacon, Crecora, Co. Limerick. Starting time 9.30am sharp. Further details can be found at www.crecorashow.com
