Show Jumping - Kerrygold Grand Prix League - Smyth Wins Omagh

ANOTHER WIN by Peter Smyth on his own <Zara's Pride> at Omagh today (Saturday) has shot him to Second place in the Kerrygold Grand Prix league table, behind James Kernan.

Smyth will also turn out at Blessintgon Grand Prix tomorrow (held at Kill Equestrian Centre), and has a chance of taking the lead from Kernan, who will be battling to stay on top with two horses in the competition.

Smyth said after his win at Omagh: < I am absolutely delighted. Especially with this mare, which came from humble beginnings and is now starting to show her true potential.>

Today's Omagh fixture, held in fair weather, and with double clears a-plenty, saw 11 riders through to the jump-off out of a field of 29, and also helped put Linda Courtney just one point outside the Top Six in the league table.

But the appearance of Conor Swail on Edward Cawley's <Windgate's Mystique>, with a Second, now gives him 11 points that could be improved upon tomorrow at Blessington, where he will ride both <Windgate's Paragon> and Barry O'Connor's <Double Diamond>.

Edward Lyttle rode David Prentice's <Pulserate> in its debut Grand Prix at Omagh today, but was unfortunate enough to have one down in the first round.

However, it is at the top end of the League that excitement is now starting to mount, with Conor Swail back from international duty in challenging form, and Smyth and Kernan, together with Andrew Dunlop, battling to hold supremacy as front-runners.
