The Hampton Classic Announces “An Evening of Shopping”

Music, Food and Shopping in the Boutique Garden

Bridgehampton, NY—July 25, 2002—The Hampton Classic is proud to announce “An Evening of Shopping”, to take place Thursday, August 29 from 5:00 -7:00 pm.

Every year more than four dozen vendors set up shop at the Boutique Garden at the Hampton Classic which returns to Bridgehampton, NY, August 25-September 1, to sell their wares throughout the course of Long Island’s premier week-long equestrian event. For seven days, visitors to the Classic can browse and shop for everything from jewelry to art to equestrian supplies and leather goods.

For one special night, the forty-six vendors at the Boutique Garden will keep their doors open a little late to provide visitors the opportunity to spend the evening on the Classic’s beautiful showgrounds browsing through boutiques that offer exquisite shopping opportunities while at the same time enjoying music by the Jim Turner band plus free hors d’oeuvres, wine and other beverages.

“We feel that by keeping the Boutique Garden open late one night competitors, trainers, and all those busy with the horse show during the day will have a chance to shop at the Classic’s top quality boutiques in the evening after they have finished all their horse show duties,” said Tony Hitchcock, Executive Director of the Hampton Classic.

The Boutique Garden offers a wide range of goods, from souvenir Hampton Classic t-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, jackets, and posters to this year’s showcased hand made one-of-a-kind furniture and leather goods to antiques, fine jewelry, boots and shoes, gifts from all over the world, and fashion apparel. Vendors at this year’s Hampton Classic include:

After a busy day of competition or a relaxing day at one of the Hamptons’ nationally renowned beaches, “An Evening of Shopping” offers vacationers the perfect ending to a perfect day. “Not only can equestrian enthusiasts and those involved with the competition enjoy the boutiques, but visitors and vacationers of the Hamptons will also take pleasure in the high-quality boutiques,” Hitchcock noted.

As the sun fades out over the showgrounds and the summer of 2002 starts to slip away, an Evening of Shopping is the perfect way to take some time off to relax and savor the last days of summer. One can enjoy the elegant horse show atmosphere, the company of friends, as well as the vendors and all the exquisite wares they have to offer as they showcase their goods throughout the evening.

The famed Jim Turner Band will perform throughout “An Evening of Shopping.” Jim Turner is a highly versatile performer who has assembled some of the finest musicians in the Hamptons in his group. One East End newspaper has called him “an ecletic original…a musician who is aware of the theater of performance.”

There will be no admission charge to enter the showgrounds for “An Evening of Shopping” after the day’s competition has been completed and there is never any charge for parking.

The 27th annual Hampton Classic Horse Show, which benefits the Southampton Hospital, is a showcase for hunter/jumper competition from junior levels up to the pinnacle of the sport—grand prix show jumping—and culminates with the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix on Grand Prix Sunday, September 1.
