2001 Brookhill Steeplechase A Success - 2002 Date and Chairman Selected

Clayton, NC - The 2001 Brookhill Steeplechase closed its books this week and succeeded in providing an exciting afternoon for thousands of Triangle area spectators and in supporting local organizations throughout the community. Thanks to measurable increases in tent and tailgate package sales, this year's event proved to be one of Brookhill's most successful since its start nine years ago.

With spectators ranging from NC State's Marye Anne Fox, Mayors Coble and McCormac of Raleigh and Clayton, respectively, to Monkee Davy Jones and 96 Rock's Chopper Harrison, the 2001 races offered something for everyone to enjoy. "We are grateful to all of our partners and guests of Brookhill who join us and continue to support us each year, " comments 2001 Race Chairperson Karey Martin. "We look forward to continued success in our relationship with the Raleigh, Clayton, and extended communities, and cordially invite everyone next year to our Tenth Anniversary!"

This year's success was due in part to its newly designed website with online ordering, to a tongue-and-cheek advertising campaign from Clayton's own Killer Creative Group and to the thousands of volunteer hours spent on the farm before, during and after the event. Harris Teeter's partnership as a area ticket outlet helped sell over 570 general admission tickets prior to the event. Other sponsors like Time Warner Cable, GlaxoSmithKline, Curtis Media Group, the Johnston County Visitors Bureau, Harris Wholesale, Spectator Magazine and the Clayton News-Star also proved instrumental in promoting a sport whose history and traditions date back more than a century.

Proceeds from the 2001 Brookhill Steeplechase will go to support local organizations including the Triangle Hunt Club, the Triangle Red Cross, the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities and the more than one hundred community service projects run by the Raleigh Jaycees each year.

Volunteers are already busy planning for the 2002 season. Brookhill 2002 is scheduled for May 4, 2002 and 2001 Marketing Vice Chair, Dupre Jones, has been selected as 2002 Race Chairman. Gina Caldanaro, Jason Edwards and Shawn West have been chosen as Vice Chairs for Administrative Services, Hospitality and Finance, respectively.

"The Brookhill Steeplechase has become not only a charity sporting event, but also a social landmark that thousands of people from across the East Coast look forward to attending every spring," comments Jones. "It's fun, it helps the community and I'm glad to be a part of such an event." For more information on the Brookhill Steeplechase and the Raleigh Jaycees, please visit the official website at
