Top drawer jumping at Royal Windsor

Eight out of ten of the nation’s top show jumpers will be competing at Royal Windsor Horse Show 13th-16th May 2004. This year the first-class line-up will be headed by British No. 1 Michael Whitaker and also includes Robert Smith (No.2), new British Open Champion Nick Skelton (No.3), together with Michael’s brother John Whitaker (No.5) and nephew Robert Whitaker (No.6).

They join a total of around 170 European competitors who have entered the exciting array of show jumping classes which include a welcome return for the Ladies and Gentlemen’s Championships. The stakes will be even higher than previous years with an increased prize pot in the key classes with £12,500 on offer for the Royal Windsor Grand Prix alone.

With 1375 showing entries and over 100 entries for the Land Rover Carriage Driving International, Royal Windsor remains one of the biggest and most diverse horse shows in the country. This year’s innovation of ‘Teach Ins’ on each afternoon will give visitors the opportunity to listen to words of wisdom from the likes of international showjumper Tim Stockdale, Dressage supremo Jennie Loriston-Clarke and former Burghley winner Jane Wallace. There is also the opportunity to learn from the original ‘horse whisperer’ himself, Monty Roberts, who will be displaying his awesome skills in the Castle Arena each day. Add to this an elegant display from the Portugese Lusitano’s and the dramatic display of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

The only real question is when to go shopping? This too is a priority area for the visitor’s attention, with a range of over 150 shops from designer clothing and interiors to art, antiques and garden furniture as well as a spectacular selection of saddlery stores. Royal Windsor also has a traditional Victorian funfair for the children, gastronomic delights in the show restaurants and champagne bars for children and grown ups alike, and unreserved free seating in the Castle Arena. All this means that it will be an experience to remember.

Advance tickets for the Royal Windsor Horse Show are available from the box office, telephone 0870 121 5370 (or +44 115 912 9160 for international calls) and are from £10 with concession prices from £7. Children 12 and under can gain admission for free. FREE RINGSIDE SEATING (on a first come first served basis). A very attractive Membership package is also available by ringing 01753 860633.
