Irish Army stage successful attack on Pontedera (ITA) CSI A

Capt. Gerry Flynn and Lt. David O’Brien represented the Army Equitation School well at the Pontedera, Italy CSI A from May 16th to 18th, by taking top placings in six classes over the weekend. The climax of their run at Pontedera found Boherdeal Clover (ISH), ridden by Lt. David O’Brien (IRL) take first in the Pontedera Grand Prix on Saturday. Also competing in this class, and finishing in seventh place, was Two Mills Showtime (ISH) ridden by Robert Maguire (GBR).

Prior to his Grand Prix win, Lt. David O’Brien rode Boherdeal Clover (ISH) to take third place in Fridays 1m45 class, which was won by Capt. Gerry Flynn (IRL) and Rincoola Abu (ISH). Lt. David O’Brien (IRL) went on to come second in both the 1m40 class on Friday riding Lismore Clover (ISH) and again on Saturday, this time riding Carraig Dubh (ISH). Sundays 1m40 Accumulator class was won by Rincoola Abu (ISH) and Capt. Gerry Flynn (ISH) while the 1m40 Table A class saw Lismore Clover (ISH) and Lt. David O’Brien (IRL) take third.

Irish Sport Horses also scored Grand Prix success last Sunday at the Linz (AUT) CSIO**** where Swanky (ISH) and Tadayoshi Hayashi (JPN) took second place and Royal Charmer (ISH) and Markus Fuchs (SUI) took ninth.

The 2003 Pan American Games Show Jumping selection trials at Lexington placed Ado Annie (ISH) and Will Simpson (USA) in seventh position and Carlow Clover (ID), ridden by Robin Sweely (USA) in eighth.
