horse The Open College of Equine Studies

Learn how to produce the ultimate equine athlete

If you have always wanted to learn how to fine-tune your horse for a winning competition season, The Open College of Equine Studies has the answer with their popular ‘Equine Athlete – Production and Therapies’ study week running from 1st- 6th June 2003. A limited number of places are still available.

When training horses for any competitive discipline, whether the sport is racing, showjumping, dressage or eventing, injury and imbalance can affect performance.

The course covers the production of athletic horses for both the Thoroughbred and non-Thoroughbred sectors and explores the range of ‘traditional’ and complementary therapies that are available to promote and regain normal function. Experts in the fields will give practical talks and demonstrations.

Subjects covered will include equine physiotherapy, shiatsu, chiropractic techniques, laser and magnetic therapy, drugs and the performance horse, sport horse production, advanced equine nutrition, foot balance in the performance horse, equine biomechanics and the Thoroughbred and racing industry.

Students will watch horses work on the gallops at Newmarket, visit the British Racing School, the Animal Health Trust, a racehorse trainer’s yard, and see horses swim.

The course is open to all and starts at 2.30pm on Sunday 1st June and ends at lunchtime on Friday 6th June. The cost is £300.00 including food and accommodation. To book your place contact The Open College of Equine Studies, Flempton, Bury St Edmunds, IP28 6EN, telephone: 01284 700703,
