Vinoski Wins Her First Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, Presented

KY-April 28, 2002-After a fourth place finish in 2000, Kimberly
Vinoski emerged victorious at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event
CCI****, presented by Bayer, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington,
April 25-28, 2002.
Marking her first win at the Olympic-level, Vinoski, 28, of Scottsville,
VA, held onto the lead with Winsome Adante, a nine-year-old English
Thoroughbred owned by Plain Dealing Farm. Vinoski, who was sitting
in fourth position following the completion of dressage on Friday,
posted a clear cross-country round, one of only four on the day.
In Sunday's final phase of stadium jumping held in windy conditions,
Vinoski picked up eight penalties after having two rails down, but
managed to hang on to the lead with a three-day total of 56.20 penalty
points.
"I am a very lucky person to have the owner that I do and very
fortunate to do what I love," said Vinoski. Along with a winner's
check of $60,000 and a Rolex timepiece, Vinoski was also awarded
the U.S. Equestrian Team (USET) Four-Star Championship.
With one rail down in stadium jumping, John Williams, 37, of Middleburg,
VA, finished runner-up with a total score of 56.61 penalties to
improve on his 12th place finish in 2001 with his 10-year-old Canadian
Sport Horse gelding, Carrick.
Amy Tryon, 32, of Redmond, WA, posted one of the day's five clear
rounds to overtake third place with Poggio II, her 10-year-old American
Thoroughbred gelding.
William Fox-Pitt, 33, of Great Britain fell out of contention when
his 16-year-old chestnut New Zealand-bred Thoroughbred gelding,
Stunning, accumulated 12 penalty points in stadium, giving him a
total score of 60.60 for fourth place.
With entries from Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, and
the United States, there was no shortage of star power as the world's
best competed for $190,000 in prize money.
The Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event served as a USET selection trial
for this year's Eventing World Championships to be held at the World
Equestrian Games in Spain in September.
Outdoor Life Network (OLN) will broadcast the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day
Event on Sunday, April 28 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. EDT.
