Foxhall Cup

ATLANTA
(April 4, 2002)- Governor Roy Barnes has declared the month of April
Equestrian Month for the State of Georgia. The State hosts several
world-renowned equestrian events during the month of April and is
the home for over 250,000 horses. The proclamation of this month
was lobbied and formed by the MBNA Foxhall Cup.
Equestrian
Month in Georgia is a great way to round up a month of major equestrian
events in Georgia, said Gail Mobley, Executive Director. We
are thrilled that the Governor has recognized the impact and scope
that events like our National Championship have on our great state.
Georgia
is proud to have become home to many wonderful and high-profile
sporting events including world-class happenings as the MBNA Foxhall
Cup, the Beaulieu Classic and the Atlanta Steeplechase. I am glad
to have this opportunity to recognize the growing number of equestrians
and horse owners in our state, said Governor Barnes.
The
MBNA Foxhall Cup is an exquisite Three-Day Event competition that
is taking place on April 18th-April 21st. The event opens with a
dressage competition and continues with the electrifying cross-country
competition on April 20th. The show jumping finale on April 21st
decides the winner of the Cup with prize money $100,000. Designated
the National Championship of Eventing, the MBNA Foxhall Cup is only
one of two three-star level eventing competitions in the nation.
This extravagant event showcases the only sport in the world where
men and women compete on equal terms.
The
MBNA Foxhall Cup is the last leg of three major equestrian competitions
in Georgia including the Beaulieu Classic in North Georgia on April
6-7 and the Atlanta Steeplechase in Rome, GA on April 13. Each of
these first-class events bring international audiences and competitors
to the State of Georgia.
