Ian
Millar And Sweet Dreams Win $2,500 Brookledge Open Welcome At
HITS Ocala IV |
OCALA, FL (March 4, 2004)—Two Canadians and an Irishman took
the top three spots in Wednesday's $2,500 Brookledge Open Welcome
at HITS Ocala IV. Seven-time Olympic veteran, Ian Millar, rode Sweet
Dreams to the blue ribbon. The Canadian legend had the only double-clear
of a field of 21 horses. Fellow Canadian, Erynn Ballard and Leacock
took second place. Irish rider, Michael Kirby and #1 Kirby finished
in third place.
Course
designer Danny Foster of Georgetown. Ontario, built a 12-obstacle
Round One course that only three riders could master. Ian Millar
and Sweet Dreams, owned by Scotia Farms, were the first to attempt
Foster's seven-obstacle jump-off course. Millar rode a perfect round,
going clear in the winning time of 49.16 seconds. Erynn Ballard
and Leacock pulled out all the stops to try to top Millar. Ballard
had the time with 47.98 seconds on the clock, but a rail down at
the last jump dashed her chances. Michael Kirby and #1 Kirby finished
out the field with a twelve-fault performance in a time of 51.58
seconds.
The
next Grand Prix event at HITS Ocala will take place on Sunday, March
7th. Spectators will enjoy world-class show jumping competition
as riders compete for top honors in the $50,000 HITS Grand Prix.
