United States Show Jumping Olympic Selection Trials to Highlight Cargill International CSI****

San Juan Capistrano, CA—March 2, 2004—The Cargill International CSI**** will host the final three selection trials to choose the show jumping team that will represent the United States at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games when it returns to San Juan Capistrano, CA, May 20-23.

The first three selection trials will be held in Del Mar, CA, May 14-15. Action will then move to San Juan Capistrano for the remainder of the six trials, May 22-23. Trial 1 will be held on Friday evening, May 14. Trial 2 will be held on Saturday afternoon, May 15, and Trial 3 (over the same course) will be held that evening. The selection trials move to San Juan Capistrano for Trial 4, presented by HBO, on Saturday, May 22, and for Trials 5 and 6 on Sunday, May 23.

The Cargill International CSI**** was chosen to host the selection trials due in large part to its great success previously hosting trials for the 2000 Olympics and 2002 World Equestrian Games.

The U.S. team of four riders and one alternate will be chosen following the selection trials. At least two horse-and-rider combinations will be chosen objectively, based on their performance in the trials. Up to two horse-and-rider pairs may be chosen subjectively by U.S. Equestrian Federation (USEF) Selectors.

“We’re so excited to be able to bring the final selection trials here,” said U.S. Olympic veteran rider Robert Ridland, organizer of the Cargill International CSI****. “This will give spectators an excellent opportunity to see the country’s best riders up close before they leave for Athens.”

Each year, the Cargill International CSI**** features some of the world’s best show jumping horses and riders. Several of the world’s top Grand Prix riders are expected to be on hand this year to compete at the fourth annual Cargill International CSI****, which was the country’s first outdoor CSI (international individual show jumping competition). The 2004 event will take place May 20-23.

General admission tickets for the Cargill International CSI**** and the first three selection trials at Del Mar are available through Ticketmaster. VIP ticket packages for the Cargill International CSI**** are also available and include reserved ringside seating under the Hospitality Tent, a Friday reception, a Saturday luncheon and Sunday brunch, in addition to preferred parking.
