A special treat at this year’s I Love New York Horse Show is the 12th annual Doggie Costume Contest. This Lake Placid favorite returns on Saturday, July 10 at noon. All people with leashed dogs in costume will be admitted to the horse show at no charge. Contestants will strut their stuff in a special ring set up near the horse show’s Grand Prix ring at the North Elba Showgrounds. There is no entry fee, and all entrants will receive treats. Awards, including the Lulu Perpetual Trophy for the funniest costume, will be presented to this year’s “top dogs.”

Summer in the Adirondacks has become a yearly tradition for many North American equestrians. Riders enjoy the Adirondack Mountain region and the great recreational opportunities it offers. Fishing, swimming, golfing, hiking, canoeing, camping, and biking can all be enjoyed just a few steps away from the horse shows. There are tour boats to guide through the waters of beautiful Lake Placid. Visitors can take the Olympic tour to view all the sites from the 1980 Winter Olympics. Right in Lake Placid is the Verizon Sports Complex, a multi-sports facility training and competition site for world-class cross country skiing, biathlon, bobsled, skeleton and luge athletes. Visitors can watch training year round and can take a Trolley Tour of the complex. There are also many fun activities that occur right on the show grounds, such as the annual Doggie Costume Contest.
