INDIO, CA (February 27, 2003)—Fiesta Day, a celebration of Hispanic culture, returns for its third year at the Indio Desert Circuit Horse Show on Sunday, March 9, in Indio, California. Festivities with a Hispanic flavor are scheduled from 12pm until 3pm. The special guest star of Fiesta Day is famed Hollywood horse trainer and champion roper, Ramon Becerra. Ramon will work with groups of children throughout Fiesta Day as well as performing in the main show ring. Visitors to HITS Desert Horse Park will also be treated to a day of family fun with strolling mariachis, authentic Mexican food from local restaurants, a KUNA Radio Remote broadcast, Charro and Escaramuza exhibitions (Mexican Rodeo riders), folkloric dancers and singers, free pony rides, and a bouncy house plus educational activities and career information.

A newly published, bilingual children's coloring book "El Mondo del Caballo/The World of the Horse" will be given free to all children attending Fiesta day. Young people attending will also receive a full-color pamphlet—Careers in the Horse Industry/Carerras en la Industria Equina. The pamphlet is bilingual—Spanish and English—and provides information on the wide range of career opportunities available in the horse industry.

Fiesta Day is being presented by El Informador del Valle, the Hispanic voice of the Coachella Valley, and by the Valley Meat Markets, five Coachella Valley carnicerias, with additional support from KUNA< Avis Rent-A-Car, and AOL Time Warner.

Following the Fiesta Day activities the grand finale of show jumping competition at the Indio Desert Circuit will take place in the Grand Prix field—the $150,000 Ford Grand Prix of the Desert. The $150,000 Ford Grand Prix is the last West Coast qualifying event for the F.E.I. World Cup of Show Jumping. This class will decide which three riders from the West Coast League will compete in the World Cup Final in Las Vegas, Nevada in mid-April. At the conclusion of this year's Indio Desert Circuit horse show series, more than 5,000 horses will have competed in one or more of the six weekly competitions in Indio.

HITS Desert Horse Park features competition Wednesday through Sunday from 8am until approximately 4pm. General admission on Saturday or Sunday is $5 for adults. Children 12 and under are always admitted at no charge. The Indio Chamber of Commerce will provide volunteers as ticket takers on March 9 and will receive a percentage of the total ticket proceeds from the six-week horse show series. Six other Coachella Valley charities also share the admission proceeds from the Indio Desert Circuit.

DIRECTIONS: Take I-10 to the Monroe Street exit in Indio. Go south approximately five miles south to Avenue 52. Turn right (west) onto Avenue 52. Horse Show entrance is mile on the right.
