Baileys Horse Feeds

Foot and Mouth Precautions

Baileys Horse Feeds are reassuring customers that they are taking all possible precautions to help in preventing the spread of Foot and Mouth disease. The mill at Bardfield Saling near Braintree is 15 miles from the edge of the MAFF designated infected area round the abattoir at Brentwood in Essex, where the first diseased animals were identified last Tuesday.

From last Friday, a wheel wash was in place at the entrance to the mill so that all Baileys, and visiting, lorries and other vehicles drive through disinfectant on entering and leaving the site. Drivers have this week been issued with disposable protective overalls and overshoes and are checking carefully with proposed destinations before making any deliveries or collections.

As soon as the news of the disease broke, all Baileys’ Regional Sales Managers throughout the country were advised not to visit farms or yards with livestock. They have since been advised by Head Office not to make “cold calls”, as they can not be certain that unfamiliar premises do not contain livestock.

“We are taking all precautions we can think of to help in preventing the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease,” said Managing Director, Paul Venner. “We shall do our best to ensure that our customers are not inconvenienced but I am sure they will understand that some disruption may be unavoidable at this worrying time.”
