Original series created by Capital Region resident earns top Broadcast honor

January 6, 2003 -- Albany, NY – UNBRIDLED with Susan Kayne is the recipient of the prestigious 2003 Excellence in Broadcast Media Award presented by the U.S. Equestrian Federation. The award will be formally presented to Susan Kayne at the Pegasus Dinner held in Los Angeles, CA on January 16, 2004. The series was produced locally through Kayne’s rockin’horse productions.

Kayne filmed UNBRIDLED in Saratoga, NY at the Oklahoma Training Track and Main Track while simultaneously galloping horses for Todd Pletcher, Bill Mott and Christophe Clement. The series aired on CBS affiliate station WRGB channel 6 every Saturday, in conjunction with the running of the 135th Historic Saratoga Race meet. Kayne brought viewers the inside the nation’s top racing stables. Episodes featured exclusive in-depth interviews with record breaking trainer TODD PLETCHER, youngest Hall of Fame trainer BILL MOTT, leading lady trainer LINDA RICE, top claiming trainer STEVE KLESARIS, New York’s leading owner SANFORD GOLDFARB, Daily Racing Form Chairman and Publisher STEVEN CRIST and local FUNNY CIDE connections Joe and Anne McMahon and included segments on hay, grain, bedding, shoeing, safety vests, bridles, bits and riders. Trainer’s and their staff shared what they looked for, how they cared for, and most of all…demonstrated their love for the horse and dedication to the sport.

Kayne learned of the honor on Christmas Day, “UNBRIDLED was born of my life long love for the horse, the greatest joys I have experienced are shared with these beautiful creatures. It is my goal to share the joy horses can bring into a life with every home in America; the recognition of the U.S. Equestrian Federation is a quantum leap toward achieving that goal.”

“I knew the series resonated with fans by the continual requests for DVD’s, we even have a fan club in Southern California, that watches the series on HorseTV,” said Kayne.

The Media Award is generating quite a buzz in an industry searching for a broadcast outlet. “We are already receiving calls from potential sponsors and network partners for the second season. Wait till you see what we can produce with a budget!” gleefully exclaimed Kayne.

“At the heart of my creation,” says Kayne “is the hope that America will reconnect with the horse and realize that broken lives can be revitalized through this connection. The relationship of horse and human has no bounds. It is not defined by race, culture, color or creed. That is the message of UNBRIDLED and the essence of the name.”

With an undeniable connection to the horse, Kayne closes each show with a beautiful chestnut colt in her arms (a million dollar thoroughbred that she galloped for trainer Todd Pletcher). “Battle Hero doesn’t know his value, but he knows his worth by the loving touch of a kind hand,” affectionately Kayne continues, “not every horse we see on the show will be a success on the racetrack, but that doesn’t take away the fact that these animals bring love and joy to all who encounter them; they make great friends and wonderful pets. In fact, for many, the relationship with a horse is deepest bond they will ever experience.” This is a truth lived by Kayne.

about Susan Kayne:

A Capital Region native, Susan Kayne grew up with horses, riding and showing locally and throughout the Country earning numerous championships.

Spring 2003, Kayne appeared nationwide on the Outdoor Life Network as a features reporter in Emmy Award winning producer Jim Carr’s presentation of World Cup Show Jumping in West Palm Beach, FL and Palm Springs, CA.

Through rockin’horse productions Kayne is developing several broadcast properties including the 2004 second season of the award-winning UNBRIDLED series.

In December 2003 Kayne formed the UNBRIDLED THOROUGHBRED FOUNDATION, an organization to extend the useful life of thoroughbred racehorses by transitioning them into other disciplines.
