WELLINGTON, Florida - High-goal polo continued to flex its global sense of panache at the International Polo Club Palm Beach on and off the field during action at the 22-goal Ylvisaker Cup.

A crowd of 1,367 enjoyed a clear, sunny day honoring one of polo's pioneers. The on-field festivities began with Maggie Boyle leading the parade of polo players, including her father, Tommy, to midfield. Dr. Sheila Johnson, Chairman of the Washington International Horse Show and a guiding force of The National Horse Show and Winter Equestrian Festival, gave a beautiful rendition of the national anthem. Village of Wellington councilwoman Laurie Cohen handled the pre-game coin toss near midfield.

The club's traditional halftime champagne divot stomp continued with a twist as almost two dozen Harley Davidson motorcycles roared around the field, leading the crowd to the Hummers filled with champagne. Spectators sporting fashions from major designers as well as jeans and t-shirts mingled easily sipping the bubbly at midfield.

Prior to the polo match, more than 200 guests dined on a delicious brunch catered by The Breakers before heading into the stadium to catch all the thrilling action in the 22-goal Ylvisaker Cup game.

On the field, C Spear dominated the second half en route to a 13-7 victory over Brigadoon. Nine-goaler Paco de Narvaez led the winners with six goals and Boyle added four goals. Boyle was named the game's MVP for his efforts. American 10-goaler Adam Snow led Brigadoon with five goals.
The Ylvisaker Cup in named in honor of William T. "Bill" Ylvisaker, a polo pioneer who founded Palm Beach Polo and Country Club in the late 1970s and was elected into the Polo Hall of Fame in 1996. Ylvisaker, who has been involved in polo for some 50 years, has won numerous major polo tournaments, including the prestigious U.S. Open in 1972.
