Irish
Draught Stallion will compete at Orlando Dressage show
To the left, Stephany Fish rides Irish in Santa Fe,
NM. Fish was impressed with Irish and decided he could
compete with Florida's top dressage horses. The purebred
Irish Draught has adjusted well to Florida's Winter
Climate. Irish was accustomed to working at an elevation
of 7,000 feet. When he reached sea level Fish discovered
the stallion had amazing stamina. Irish has impressed
many since arriving in Florida. Several top dressage
riders/clinicians have worked with Fish and Irish. Recently,
Marion Green of Ireland visited his training facility.
Green told Fish she was very impressed. Green worked
to improve his canter pirouettes. Irish is at the Irish

Horses
Of A Different Color To Be Sold At Auction
Take a free farewell ride on San Diegos 113-year-old
carousel.
A rare breed of endangered animals will take a final
spin in San Diego on April 17th when the 113-year-old
Seaport Village carousel will go on the auction block.
It is one of the oldest and few remaining antique wooden
carousels still operating in America.
For many generations carousel horses, revolving majestically
to band organ music, summons wonderful memories of childhood.
The Golden Age of the American carousel lasted 50 years,
from 1880-1930. Sadly, of the more than three thousand
hand carved wooden carousels built prior to the Great
Depression, fewer than 70 of the grand Park style
carousels like the one at Seaport Village still survive.
Many folk art lovers regard wooden carousels as living
museums. Hand carved carousel figures that once graced
merry-go-round platforms are eagerly sought after by
folk art collectors. Some single carvings have sold
for more them $150,000. Several of the Seaport Village
carousel dog carvings are thought to worth upwards of
$50,000 each. |
The
maker of the Seaport Village carousel was Charles Looff
a pioneer carousel artist. His first carousel was erected
on Coney Island Beach in New York during the summer of 1876.
His early carousels were exciting mixtures of menagerie
figures (non-horses) plus the ever-popular horses. Looff
was an early amusement park tycoon. He primarily built carousels
that he operated himself, and then went on to California
around 1909 where he built entire amusement piers in Santa
Monica, Santa Cruz and Long Beach. His piers at Santa Monica
and Santa Cruz still are in use. With his wife and six children
they lived in the second floor of the carousel building
on the old Long Beach Pike.

Customs
Pass Unclaimed Horses to the ILPH
Issued
on behalf of HM Customs and Excise and ILPH
On
1st September 2003, HM Customs and Excise at Dover
discovered approximately 20 kilograms of cocaine in
the floor of a horsebox, which was examined at Dover
Eastern Docks. Inside the horsebox were two horses,
which were also detained. Since 1st September 2003,
no one has come forward to claim the horses, which
have been cared for at a livery stables at St. Margaret's,
near Dover.
|
Customs
spokesman Nigel Knott says, "Reducing the availability
of Class A drugs in the UK is a primary responsibility for
HM Customs and Excise. The seizure of approximately 20 kilos
of cocaine prevents around 100,000 deals reaching the streets.
The horses had to be be detained as they were in the lorry,
but they need more care and attention than we are able to
provide for them, but which they will receive from the International
League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH), for the rest
of their lives."

Highlights for Reiners: Shows in Bremen and Dortmund now
approved as CRIs (FEI Reining)
The International western shows at Bremen and Dortmund are
now even more interesting for reining competitors. Yesterday,
Michael Stone (FEI) approved both shows as "Concours
Reining International" CRI Cat. B. This means the 'Triple
Crown' in reining for these two shows. Besides the NRHA
Lawson Bronze Trophy and the qualification for the German

the chance of qualifying for the $ 100.000,-- World Reining
Masters 2004 in Oklahoma City.
As
already reported, there will be a World Reining Masters
for the first time this year. This super event was created
to find the best individual reining rider of the world.
It will take place annually from now on, alternating between
the U.S.A. and Europe. This year, the finals will take place
during the NRHA Futurity in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Each
country sends its best reining rider, meaning the one with
the largest prize money. Competitors must qualify in their
countries in international FEI events, called CRIs. Those
countries which came into the WEG 2002 finals are allowed
to send two riders each (USA, Canada, Great Britain, Germany
and Italy).

British
Equestrian Federation invited to join National Coaching
Certificate Plans
A
new era of improved coaching support for equestrian
riders, drivers and vaulters is emerging as the British
Equestrian Federation has been invited to take part
in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)
National Coaching Certificate (NCC) plans.
|
The
NCC is a sports-wide initiative that is currently being
designed by sports coach UK in consultation with all sports,
including equestrian. It aims to set agreed coaching criteria
that every sport's coaching award schemes (including training
and instructing) should meet. For equestrian sport, it could
revolutionise the coaching industry in the UK by ensuring
and raising common standards of coaching and by creating
a clearer pathway for career opportunities for coaches from
the school yard to the international arena.

New
PolyPads® shape the future
Leg
and tail protection from PolyPads® is now better than
ever, thanks to some clever design refinements based on
feedback from customers and their horses, confirming PolyPads®
as the ultimate choice for safe travel and stable protection.
PolyPads®
Leg Protectors provide sensible protection whatever the
journey. In addition to the stiffener, the hind Leg Protectors
now have enhanced shaping plus an extra strap above the
hock for a more secure fit, while the incorporation of a
scuff cuff round the bottom of each Leg Protector means
they are extra durable too.
The
PolyPads® Tail Rappa©, with its soft, towelling
lining, is now even easier to put on but does not compromise
on the protection it gives, especially at the top of the
tail. A vertical hook and loop front fixing runs the entire
length of the Rappa© enabling it to be secured with
one easy movement to ensure a firm, uniform, non-slip fit.

the field at the championship game of the 22-goal Joe Barry
Memorial tournament on Sunday (Jan. 18).

finished with five goals, including two in the crucial fifth

Sportaces
ltd affordable and flexible Sports Psychology Services
Dear Riders,
Sportaces
ltd are a sports psychology provider in the UK. Over recent
months we have been contacted by dozens of riders. They
have cited examples of how their performances were being
undermined by their inability to get their mental approach
just right. They have been asking about what kinds of FLEXIBLE
and EASY services we can provide within their budgets. Up
until recently we were purely an "offline business".
This was a challenge as it meant that YOU had to pay more
for YOUR sports psychology help. We had to make a BREAKTHROUGH...
In
response to this, and many other requests, we have developed
an INCREDIBLE online service that has been taken up by several
riders over the last week. The service is online consulting
and helps riders to appreciate the SECRETS of psychology
and how they are behind the way that YOU behave.
