There is an old axiom among horsepeople which says, "No Hoof, No Horse!" Everyone in the equine world realizes how important soundness is for a horse and the Farrier Department at New Bolton Center, headed by Rob Sigafoos and his assistant, Laura Florence, is on the cutting edge of advances and new techniques to help our equine partners stay sound and healthy. They will share their knowledge of these new advances and their research will be the recipient of any funds raised at the Open House in 2003.

Some Highlights of the Performance Featuring International Trainers and Riders Include:

Mr. Bo Jenå, world-renowned expert on training horses in long reins, will demonstrate this art with an F.E.I. level dressage horse. He will also demonstrate how to show the extended trot while running beside a horse. Mr. Jenå is director of dressage at Flyinge, the National Stud of Sweden. He is also a Grand Prix trainer, competitor and judge as well as a member of the International Trainers Club.

Mr. Alex Chterba, former head coach at the Olympic Training Center in Moscow, will demonstrate the art of working a horse in hand. Using his vast knowledge and experience, he will show a horse working in high collection (piaffe and passage.) Mr. Chterba has trained horses and riders for international competition, including the Olympic games. He has coached Olympic riders both in Russia and the USA.

Bogdan Domagala, of Poland, and Jaime Topinka, an apprentice trainer at Los Alamos Dressage Center, will show a Pas de Deux, where dressage horses perform in mirror images of each other. However, this pair will perform a very unique musical Pas de Deux over fences, mounted on offspring of L.A. Baltic Inspiration.

Lisa Basselini, apprentice trainer at Los Alamos Dressage Center, and USDF Bronze and Silver Medallist, will focus lime light on the Swedish Warmblood stallion, L. A. Baltic Sunrise, who will make his debut at the Grand Prix level in 2003. Lisa and L. A. Baltic Sunrise will perform a musical freestyle, known as a "kur", at the Grand Prix level of dressage.

L.A. Baltic Inspiration, a Swedish Warmblood Grand Prix jumper and FEI Level dressage stallion, will once again delight the audience with his extraordinary talent and zest for free jumping over very big fences.

Achievement Awards
Trophies of pewter and marble, custom designed by artist, Beverly Zimmer, will be presented to students and horses of our breeding who have won outstanding awards or have done outstanding achievements in 2002. Short, but very live Auction to help raise funds for the Therapeutic and Corrective Shoeing research

Last year this event raised $6500 to benefit arthritis research under the direction of Dr. Dean Richardson at New Bolton Center. Your support could help to raise even more in 2003 for research in the Farrier Department.
