Silver's Stable
By Mary Bodel
Silver's Stable, owned and managed by 15-year-old Andrea Bodel, is
an up and coming on-line simulated horse game. The game was started
as a homeschool project and named for a beloved pet hamster five years
ago.
Silver's Stable is designed to teach proper horse care and maintenance.
Currently, besides virtual competitions, it is possible to groom,
feed and play with the horses in the virtual stable.
"Most people's experiences are limited to pony rides (at parties),"
Bodel states. She goes on to explain that there is more to horse ownership
than just riding.
"Grooming a horse helps to make a social bond," she goes
on to state. "So is feeding, but in a different way. Most people
don't realize there is a science to feeding a horse. Horse's don't
go if they aren't fed, and too much feed can result in colic."

An
Introduction To Endurance Riding
Endurance
Riding is one of the newest and perhaps the fastest growing
branch of equestrianism. Although organised endurance rides
were held in the US as early as the mid- 1800s, the modern
sport of endurance riding really began in the in 1955 when
the Tevis Cup, a one day 100 mile ride from Squaw Valley,
Nevada to Auburn California, was first run. Other rides followed
and the first national endurance riding association, the American
Endurance Ride Conference (AERC) was founded in 1972.
|
Endurance Riding
is a sport for everyone, with rides to suit every ability and age,
from 10 mile pleasure ride right up to endurance rides of 100 miles
in a day, and longer over several days.
Although
endurance rides are often hotly contested, at every level of endurance
the welfare of the horse is paramount, with the strictest veterinary
checks of all horse sports, and awards for best condition often being
regarding as important as wining. For many people the unofficial motto
of the sport 'To finish is to win' sums up the satisfaction they feel
bringing their horse home sound and healthy

A
Horse of Course with Don Blazer
If you don't keep your horse as busy as
a little beaver, he might become a wood chuck. How much wood
would a wood chuck chuck, if your wood chuck was actually
chucking wood instead of eating it?
Who knows? I don't. But I do know that Dobbin's impersonation
is detrimental to the appearance of wood fences and stall
doors. And wood chewing--if you are a horse--is a costly vice
which can be quite dangerous
