The
Royal National Theatre presents a unique exhibition:
Last of
a Breed: A photographic tribute to the working cowboy
by Martin
HM Schreiber
14 February - 23 March 2002
Lyttelton Exhibition Foyer 10.00am - 11.00pm (not Sundays).
Free
|
"Martin Schreiber's
strikingly direct and truthful photographs vividly capture and convey
the allure and the reality of cowboying. No drugstore, celluloid,
urban or wannabe cowboys here
just the real McCoy". Professor
Richard W. Slatta
This exhibition
is a remarkable collection of around 100 images by internationally
acclaimed photographer and adventurer Martin Schreiber. This compelling
photographic record captures the essence of the contemporary cowboy's
daily existence, which has remained unchanged since the need for cowboys
arose. In addition to the striking images originally featured in a
book on the same theme Last of a Breed: Portraits of Working Cowboys,
the exhibition will also include much new work. Around half of the
work in the exhibition has never been shown in the UK.
This show
is a social documentary giving an intriguing insight to a free-ranging
lifestyle, which has been an inspiration for many writers and film-makers
and reveals recent images of the great American hero known throughout
the world. The images reveal raw masculinity and vast spaces and provoke
a dream of a rural past.

Previously, she was breifly confined to a wheelchair. Through
weight loss, intense spiritual healing, and therapeutic horseback
riding, Kari Ann has come a long way.
Nothing
has strengthened her back as much as horseback riding. Now
she can walk without pain most of the time. She only uses

Three Events And A
Wedding!
Hot
on the heels of the announcement that Burnham Market is to hold
and Advanced class in 2002 is the news that event organisers, Emily
Thompson and Alex Lochore, have revealed their engagement.
The Advanced
Event will take place on Good Friday, March 29th 2002 - the ideal
pre-Badminton warm-up. The course is being upgraded from the already
inspiring CIC** to advanced standard by leading course-builder Hugh
Lochore over the next two months, which, combined with the excellent
going at Burnham Market is sure to make the event very popular.
Many of
the world's top event riders found their way to Burnham Market for
the Autumn Event last year and the organisers are hoping that the
advanced class will attract significant additional numbers. The
venue is particularly popular with riders to its demanding but fair
course, well-drained land and professional organisation.

Ann
Marie Is Groomed For A Career In I.T.
A groom from Hindley, Wigan has mucked out her monotonous
job to ride into a stable career in the IT industry. After
four years grooming horses for Greater Manchester police,
Ann Marie Ingram felt she was saddled with poor prospects,
so she enrolled on a training programme that helped her swap
bits for bytes.
"It wasn't a well paid job and I had to work shifts.
The IT industry offered the prospect of high earnings and
a long term career," Ann Marie explains. Despite knowing
nothing of computers and how they worked, she was champing
at the bit to gain the IT skills that would allow her to change
tack and work in the industry.

Distinguished Line-Up
For Young Horse Evaluation Judges
The
British Equestrian Federation's Breeding Programme took a significant
step forward this week when the arrangements for the first-ever judges'
seminar for the South Essex Insurance Brokers /British Equestrian
Federation Young Horse Evaluation Series were announced.
To be held
at Unicorn Centre, Stow on the Wold, Gloucestershire on the evening
of 22 January and morning of 23 January, the seminar will be conducted
by two of the very top names in the field of young sport horse evaluation
- Prof Ingvar Fredricson and Jan Olof Wannius. From Sweden they have
both played key roles in developing the concept of these kind of evaluations
which have much more fundamental aims than being innovatory young
horse classes. They also act as stallion and mare performance tests
and as progeny tests thus building up the data needed to establish
genetic indices.
