The last qualifying heat for the finals of the TNT Sires of the World took place in the Nekkerhal in Mechelen, Belgium on Friday evening, 29 December 2000. There were 38 stallions in a strong field of contenders who all had a go at gaining the last points. The selective course of Lucien Somers produced seven candidates for the jump off. After a thrilling competition it was Nabab de Reve (Quidam de Revel x Artichaut) with Phillipe Lejeune riding for Belgium, who took the first prize.

The ten-year-old, Belgium bred, Nabab de Reve is a son of the top stud Quidam de Revel, who among other things, scored highly at the Olympic Games in Barcelona. Nababs dam is a daughter of the stallion Artichaut. In front of packed stands he immediately collected the full 25 points at his first appearance in TNT Sires of the World 2000/2001. Nababs biggest rival in the jump off was TNT Caretano Z (Caretino x Reichsgraf) who is leading in the intermediate heats. Under Jos Lansink the careful Caretano Z went a faultless round but just could not beat the winners time. TNT Caretano Z has had a wonderful season: in all four qualifiers he managed to get through to the jump off. In Lanaken that resulted in second place, in Kiel he was the winner and in Amsterdam he came seventh. Third place in Mechelen went to the twelve-year-old Leader M van de Zuuthoeve with Joris Vergauwen. He was the third and last barrage candidate with a faultless round.

The influence of the BWP was very noticeable in Mechelen. Of the seven participants in the jump off, four are registered in the Belgium stud book. As well as the already mentioned Nabab de Reve and Leader M van de Zuuthoeve, the first round was completed without faults by Ohio van de Padenborre and Millar. Both made jumping faults in the jump off. For Millar, Mechelen was the third Sires of the World this season. In Lanaken he surprised both friends and foe by his convincing win; in Amsterdam he made, just as in Mechelen, a jumping fault in the barrage. The winner of Amsterdam, Lincoln with Albert Zoer, came seventh in Mechelen; Wim Schroder with Eurocommerce Monaco sixth.
